Art&Act Featuring: Illuminating Creativity of Lidia Chiarelli

Artist Lidia Chiarelli

Lidia Chiarelli, an Italian artist and poet, carries a rich legacy that extends beyond her own impressive body of work. As the daughter of the renowned Guido Chiarelli, the engineer and innovator responsible for revolutionizing public lighting in Turin, Italy, she grew up in an environment imbued with creativity, innovation, and a deep appreciation for the arts.

Guido Chiarelli

Guido Chiarelli was not only a master of his craft but also a pioneer in transforming Turin into a city of lights during the post-war era. His contributions were crucial in modernizing the city's public lighting system, earning him recognition as a leader in his field. Turin’s urban landscape, illuminated by his designs, became a symbol of progress and modernization, reflecting the blend of engineering precision and artistic sensibility that characterized Guido's work.

Lidia inherited this dual passion for both art and innovation, but chose to channel it into more creative avenues. A prominent figure in the art world, she is best known for her involvement in the international literary and artistic movement known as Immagine & Poesia, which she co-founded in 2007. This movement seeks to unite visual art and poetry, creating a synthesis of artistic expression that bridges the gap between words and imagery.

Her artistic style is distinctly surreal and symbolic, often featuring themes of nature, dreams, and human emotions. Through her visual art, Lidia Chiarelli conveys a sense of timeless beauty and introspection, inviting the viewer to explore deeper layers of meaning. Her works are often complemented by her poetry, creating a multisensory experience that reflects her belief in the interconnectedness of different art forms.

Lidia Chiarelli has also made significant contributions to Dylan's Day, an international celebration of the poet Dylan Thomas. Through her involvement, she honors Thomas's legacy by blending her visual art with poetry, echoing the event's spirit of creative fusion. Her artworks and poems inspired by Dylan Thomas are often featured in exhibitions and publications dedicated to the day, further solidifying her role in promoting the interconnectedness of visual and literary art across global platforms.

In addition to her contributions as a visual artist and poet, Lidia continues to honor her father’s legacy, not only through her work but also by embodying the same innovative spirit that marked Guido’s life. Where Guido used light to transform the physical world, Lidia uses art and words to illuminate the human experience.

Through exhibitions, publications, and international collaborations, Lidia Chiarelli has established herself as a modern-day Renaissance woman, blending the worlds of art and literature, much like her father did with engineering and innovation. She stands as a testament to the enduring power of creativity, carrying forward the legacy of her family while forging a unique path in the contemporary art scene.

Her journey as an artist, enriched by her heritage, reminds us of the profound influence that family, history, and innovation can have on one's creative output. Just as Guido Chiarelli lit up the streets of Turin, Lidia continues to shine in the world of art, spreading her light to audiences around the globe.

ART and POETRY meet, according to the rules of IMMAGINE&POESIA Movement... and this kind of creativity goes back to the beginning of the 20th century with the futuristic and inspiring work of Guido Chiarelli.

Thank you Ana Stjelja for having been able to find the origins of this illuminating creativity.
